Euchre Tournament Rules
1. This tournament is progressive play. You sign up as an individual. Please arrive at 7 p.m. to sign-up. The tournament will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
2. When you sign in on the day of the tournament, you will be given a score card and assigned a number.
3. All games will be played until everybody at the table deals two times. In other words, you play 8 hands at each table and play stops after each person deals twice. Each person has a score card and writes his/her total points from that table (there is no limit to the total score if we play 8 hands).
4. To determine the first deal of the game, cards will be dealt face up until a player receives any Jack. That player then becomes the dealer. From there the deal rotates clockwise each hand.
5. Cards may be dealt one at a time or in the alternate two’s and three’s pattern.
6. The bottom card may not be examined before the deal.
7. Bidding commences with the person to the left of the dealer.
8. ”Stick the dealer” applies.
9. One player from each team will keep score. Check scores after each hand for discrepancies.
10. Scoring:
• 1 point is awarded for winning 3 or 4 tricks as “maker”
• 2 points are awarded for a “march” or “sweep” (taking all of the tricks)
• 2 points are awarded for a Euchre (3 or more tricks by defenders)
• 4 points for a declared “loner”, winning all five tricks
• 4 points are awarded for a Euchre of a loner “Arkansas” (3 or more tricks by the defenders)
11. At the end of each round, players must call for an official scorer. The scorer will award the winning team’s points to the players of the winning team and loser’s points to the losing players.
12. At the end of each round, players will be assigned new seats (different partners each round). The winners will move and the losers will stay. One of the losers staying at a table will move to another seat at that table. When you move, you do not partner with the same person you just partnered with.
13. The tournament does not have a designated set number of rounds; instead it will have a designated end time. No new hands will be dealt after 9:45 p.m.
14. At the end of the tournament, all scores will be added. The winner will be determined by the total points earned for all rounds. The person with the most points will win 50% of the ‘pot’ (total entry fees collected from the tournament). In the case of a tie, that 50% of the pot will be divided amongst all winners.
15. A 5 minute “break” after 3 rounds (approximately every hour) for bathroom breaks, etc.
